March, last year, MATES IN CONSTRUCTION announced they would be the sole recipient of the Australian Government's $6 million grant to boost mental heath and wellbeing services for remote workers in mining, energy, construction, and manufacturing industries.
Previous Minister for Health and Aged Care, Greg Hunt, said MATES in Construction would work with the mining industry to drive better health and suicide prevention in the fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) and the drive-in, drive-out (DIDO) work force.
“These workers experience higher levels of psychological distress—including anxiety and depression—with 33 per cent of FIFO workers reporting ‘high’ or ‘very high’ levels of psychological distress." Greg Hunt, Minister for Health and Aged Care, 2022
The funding opportunity will allow MATES, over two years, to increase, build, and provide specialised support to remote workers. It is hoped this investment will reduce suicides by 75%.
Part of the funding has been directed towards an online portal to assist employers, volunteers, workers and their families. TEMPUS MEDIA has heavily involved in this project and brought The Creative Consultant on board to assist with the design and creation of video thumbnails.
